Recognizing Students that have demonstrated effort, commitment and perseverance.
Inspired by the U.S. Turnaround Achievement Awards Program, which celebrates students for overcoming personal hurdles, Kingswood brought this powerful concept to New Brunswick. In 1994, they launched their own program in School District 18, inviting District 17 to join in 1995.
While we've long applauded students for their achievements in academics, sports, and arts, the Turnaround Achievement Awards champion a different kind of success: the profound courage it takes to turn one's life around. For three decades, this program has provided an evening of well-deserved recognition for students who have made significant strides in their behavior, attitude, and academics. It's a testament to the fact that even those facing serious educational and personal challenges can forge a new path by changing their outlook.
The enduring success of this program is a direct result of the dedication from Kingswood and the Turnaround Achievement Award Committee. Over the past thirty-on years, an incredible 1,113 students from Districts 17 and 18 (now the Anglophone West School District) have been honored, with $665,500 in scholarships awarded to support their continued growth.

This year we introduced a new student scholarship fundraiser called the Paint n' Sip with Andrea Milley on May 27th at the Kingswood Lodge. It was an excellent night for all those who attend with $500 being raised. Plans are now underway to host this event again soon.

The Jake Allen Celebrity Classic has been established to create an event that supports causes important to the benefactor, showcases Jake’s home province and town to his friends in the NHL, and to bring an opportunity for the local community to meet and mingle with current and former NHL players, among others. Jake Allen has identified the Turnaround Awards as one recipient of support from the proceeds of the event. Over the past four years, Jake's charity Program 34 has presented Brian Johnson of the Kingswood Turnaround Achievement Awards Committee with over $75,000 from the golf tournament.
Kingswood provides a $1,000.00 bursary that is awarded to every Grade 12 student who goes on to continue their education. The Kingswood Family lost a beautiful young person Jenn Brewer in June, who was killed in the horrific car accident on waterfront drive. Jenn worked at the service counter in the Entertainment Center for the last few years and was known for her kindness, beautiful smile, and positive disposition. For myself, she made my day every time I walked by the service counter and saw that big beautiful smile and friendly hello - I loved that greeting! All our staff are dealing with the loss of Jenn, it’s been hard on everyone. We are in touch with her family and are helping in any way we can.
I would like to start a scholarship of $1000 in the memory of Jenn Brewer for our TAA and have Jenn’s family member present it every year. We contacted Jenn’s mom and sister and they are absolutely honored by this recognition for Jenn. Jenn won’t be forgotten by her family at Kingswood! Let your thoughts and prayers be with Jenn and her Family going through this very difficult time.
